Surely we have all heard of the term ‘hangry’, adjective relating to a person who experiences anger when hungry. I will admit, this is certainly something I am guilty of! I am always packing extra food, and stuffing my pockets with fast snacks, to avoid any episodes. As fall sets in and the weather gets colder I find my body craving extra calories to perform, and to stay warm and happy of course!

Here are a few of my fall favourites for fast snacks on the trail.

1. Qi’a Power Balls – This delicious treat is packed full of both short and long acting energy.

  • 3/4 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1/3 cup Cocoa Power
  • 1/3 cup Shredded Coconut
  • 1/2 cup Peanut Butter
  • 1/2 cup Honey
  • 1/4 cup Qi’a (I used the Cranberry Vanilla, but I would imagine original would be best!)
  • 2 tsp Vanilla

Simply mix in a bowl and form into balls!

2. Cashew-Almond Power Balls – Taking Lara (also a favourite) bars to the next level!

Cashew Almond Power Balls, Rocky Mountain Adventure Medicine

  • 1 cup of Pitted Dates
  • 1/3 cup Shredded coconut
  • 2 tbs Coconut Oil (melted)
  • 3 tbs Almond Flour
  • 1/2 cup Raw Cashews
  • 2/4 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup Natural Almond Butter

Place dates, coconut, coconut oil, and almond flour  into your food processor and blend until smooth. Add raw cashews and mix briefly. Dump contents into a bowl, add oats, and almond butter. Mix by hand and form into balls.
